9ish weeks to go!

Feeling lots of baby movement these days. Not enough to keep me awake and night, but it is a bit of an eerie feeling when you look down and your belly is moving independently of the rest of you. It's all becoming very real.... I am now officially 27 weeks and 1 day. For those who don't know, generally the baby is born between 36 and 40 weeks... so here's hoping for 36! Not long now!

Just had another appointment at the doctor today. All is well. Had to drink a disgusting orange drink and get my blood taken to ensure I'm not getting diabetes (apparently not uncommon). Tasted like Orange Crush with 10x the sugar. Very barfy AND had to drink a full 500ml bottle of the stuff. Blechh.

Also had another ultrasound and 'tested' the Dr. to tell me the sex of the baby - just to double check. He confirmed - its a girl - he said there is a less than 1% chance he is wrong. That sounds pretty sure to me. Or else perhaps he is just over confident in his skills.

Please... just take my money

Just wanted to share my excruciating experience of trying to buy a crib. I know... Riveting piece of journalism ...

After many hours of research and web surfing, I finally find what I think I'm looking for. Nice 3-way-convertible (changes to a day bed or a double bed after your done with the crib) with a fancy, one hand drop side. Looks nice and functional and is $1000 less than the pretty one I found at Attica Kids (kind of like a pottery barn). So I try to order online through the WalMart web site. Basically useless. The US site shows everything you could possibly want and available at the click of the button. The Canadian site looks like they used the US site as a template and then forgot to put any products in it. Urg.

So off to WalMart I go. The place is of course complete chaos. I'm feeling like a bit of a snob, but I really hate going there. So bright and loud and disorganized. Anyway, after about 10 minutes of searching, I finally track someone down with the lovely blue smock to order the crib. They give me the 'I'm totally clueless' look and go off searching for someone else who may know more. Same look is exchanged and off they go together. Eventually we make our way to the lay-away counter where I get the same blank stare, however she agrees to 'try' and order for me. After about 20 minutes and 10 phone calls she looks at me, quite seriously, and says "I really just don't know how to do this. Can you come back another day?" Talk about customer service!

So, stupid me, returns another day, straight to layaway and try the same routine. Still no luck - "that's not really her job" Now I'm ready to loose it. So I gave her my number and asked for her to have her manager call me. Thank goodness the manager had a clue and the G.D Crib has been ordered. UN-believable.

And so begins the shopping journey. Next stop - stroller. This could get ugly.

It was an amazing trip. 2 days at sea followed by Martinique, Barbados, and then St. Marten and then another 2 days at sea.

Martinique was OK. We just had about 6 hours to visit the main city. I knew I loved Barbados already. Ed's favourite part was the Mount Gay Rum tour. I personally liked going back to the Crane Beach where we were married. Took some "after" shots with the belly... put them next to the wedding shots on the wall at home. :-) Then on to St. Marten. I think this was my favourite stop. Did a bit of shopping and touring. Had chocolate crepes and cappucino on the French side of the island. Ed raced America's Cup boats with Kim and his dad. I think that was his highlight on that island.

As far as the time on the boat, we were generally either swimming, reading, or eating. The food and service was amazing and the weather was perfect. All in all a fantastic trip.

No problems as far as being pregnant on the trip. Felt great. Feet got tired a bit more quickly, and the Virgin Pina Coladas weren't quite as good as the real thing... but otherwise did great.

Hope everyone enjoys the belly shots. I'm at approx 26 weeks now (6.5 months) so not too much longer to go. Thanks for all the name suggestions (sorry Dan, but Eve Steeves is also off the list :-)

We're Back!

So, in case some of you are wondering, We've been away for the last 10 days on a Cruise of the Southern Caribbean. I must say it was great! Tones of food, sun and relaxation. I'm swamped now that I'm back, but thought I would post at least one vacation picture that includes the 'bump'. Some of you may recognize the beautiful beach in the background. The Crane, Barbados... aahhhh happy memories. :-)
